Chairmans Report 3rd March 2025
Chairmans Online ramblings 03.05.25.
Here for the first time is my usual meeting Ramblings about this that and the other but not in a programme. As with most other stock car promotions, the cost of preparing a programme has gone through the roof over the past few years and become just too expensive to maintain for every meeting.
Today we have the return of the Brisca F2’s and also competing for the trackshop trophies are the, Saloonstox, Brisca Micro F2’s, Hot Saloons, and the Prostock Basics.
Our last Caravan Scottish championship meeting programme was the last normal meeting programme. We will still produce a programme for our Championship weekend meeting later in the year. All the points tables “etc” we had in the programme will be available along with my report on our web site, crimondraceway.co.uk
People must really hate Caravans as a tremendous crowd attended our last meeting on 27th March to see all the carnage & destruction the Caravan race’s produce. We ended up with 9 car/caravan combinations on track for the Scottish Caravan championship race. One of the towing cars driven by our own Cameron Innes #203 was an American Lincoln Continental Stretched Limo towing a 21ft Caravan!
We started them in the race in single file behind one another so they could get up to speed before the wrecking started. It was not long before the Limo lost its Caravan due to the tow bar assy breaking away from the car. The Limo eventually ended up at the end of the main straight where its front suspension collapsed and ended up destroying its drive tyres trying to get going onto the track for someone to drive through the middle of the car.
The Scottish race was won by Shane Kennedy #281. The race was then red flagged followed by a green flag to start the Destruction derby. Only about three cars were left running at the re-start with Gary Panton #212 and Kelsey Stewart #46 being the only two to battle it out for the win. Kelsey had to slow down to pass some of the carnage on track and Garry pounced and landed on top of the chassis of Kelsey’s caravan. Both cars could not move so a tied win and a share of the prize money was declared between Garry & Kelsey.
The big clear up started straight away and most of the big parts were loaded up into the big skips on the Sunday night. Thanks to all who stayed behind and helped, much appreciated. A small work party returned the following day to pick up the small pieces before the road sweeper arrived a few days later to clean up what was left. Mark your Callander for Easter weekend in 2026 for our next Caravan Race/DD.
Last weekend saw the annual Unlimited Banger World Cup event at the Racewall Cowdenbeath. Drivers from all over the UK are invited to attend this special event. Our own Sean Riddell #229 won the title in 2024, the first Scottish winner in a very long time, and was there to defend the title. It did not last long for Sean though as in the grand parade before the big race he had to pull off into the pits as a rear wheel bearing failed and he did not have a spare!
Most of the Scottish drivers in the big race were either current Crimond registered Banger drivers or had been registered with us before.
Just over twenty cars made the start of the big race, a far cry from the old days when you had to qualify just to get into the big race and there would have been 40 odd cars on track. The race got under way and the fewer cars allowed a bit more of a speed race than a wrecking race.
Once the race settled down Colin Riddell #222 was in the lead for a few laps until Cameron Inness #203 came through the pack and took the lead from Colin. This stayed like this for a few good laps, but Colin was struggling a wee bit and was caught by two English cars and ended up finishing in fourth place. Nobody could catch Cammy though and he took the chequered flag. Well done to Cammy, another Crimond driver showing how it is done.
I should also mention the Limo from our Caravan event got fixed and made the trip to the Racewall with Ryan Strachan #508 at the wheel. It did not last long in the big race, but it got fixed again and made it on track for the second all comers race and managed to put a few cars into the wall before its length was severely reduced by a big hit from one of the English cars. The crowd loved the Limo, and it got one of the biggest cheers when it came onto the track at the start of a race.
We changed to a Saturday for todays meeting as not to clash with the Racewall who had to change their day to a Sunday to accommodate the Brisca Hotstox formula who are in Scotland for the first time in many years. They compete on the Saturday night at Lochgelly and then at the Racewall on Sunday.
Our next meeting in May is on Sunday the 18th so back to normal again for us. Formula’s competing for the Norman Cowie trophies will be, Brisca F2, Saloonstox, ORCI Ministox, Hot Saloons and Big Bangers. The Brisca Micro F2’s will be competing for their meeting sponsor.
That is about it for today, see you all next time.
