Robert Macdonald
It is with much sadness that I have to report the passing of long- time team member of Crimond raceway, Robert Macdonald.
Robert passed away in the early hours of Sunday May 9th. Robert had been in hospital a few weeks before having some tests and a circulation problem attended to. I spoke with him after his hospital discharge at our last race meeting on May 2nd and he was looking and feeling well looking forward to a race season after the lock down season of last year.
Robert along with wife Lorraine set up and has been running the Crimond raceway track shop for the club for many, many years. Robert also ran his own small printing business and that is how he first helped out the club.
Originally the club did the programme ourselves with various committee members doing the compiling and we had our own Photocopier/Printer which was forever breaking down. Indeed this is what happened one weekend and a repair could not be done in time.
Then club secretary at the time, Mary Minty had heard of Robert and she approached him to help out. Robert stepped in and overnight managed to print the programme and save the day and has been doing it ever since. He also eventually took on the role of compiling the programme.
More recently with the introduction of the Brisca Micro F2’s and the need for them to only use Brisca Parts, Robert set up a spare parts system within the track shop and has been supplying most of the Scottish and even English drivers with their spares. This new line kept Robert & Lorraine busy with many trips between home and the track collecting/delivering parts but Robert was in his element.
Robert was originally from Wick in the far north east of Scotland and was proud to tell you this and the local name for people from there. I will not print it here but it includes a swear word!!
Robert will be missed by us all, always went out of his way to help out anybody if he could. Rest in peace Robert.
Our condolences go to Lorraine and family at this time.
Bill Barrack.
